Fitness Programs
In addition to our regular fitness programs, the Petoskey Friendship Center is hosting two new classes. Cardio Drumming will take place on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. Stand or sit for this one-hour of fun led by Lynn Turner, Executive Director of Northern Michigan Drum Village. Tai Chi Class will take place on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. Learn the skills of the Yang Style Short Form in this one-hour class led by Todd Ackerman, certified group fitness instructor and Tai Chi master. No experience is necessary for these heart healthy classes.

Dining with Diabetes Program
Dining with Diabetes is a four-session, two hours each course designed for people at risk of diabetes or who have diabetes, as well as their family members. Through the program participants will learn how to prepare healthy meals using less fat, sodium and sugar, without reducing flavor, learn tools for managing diabetes, and the importance of diet and exercise. Participants will also have the opportunity to sample a variety of healthy foods and take home recipes. MSU Extension has partnered with the Emmet County LIONS Club to offer this program at Friendship Centers of Emmet County beginning May 8, 2019. Lunchtime Entertainment
Join us for some live entertainment during lunch. At the Petoskey Friendship Center, we'll have Rustic Heart on Tuesday, May 14; Back Porch Pickers on Tuesday, May 21; and the FCEC Choir every Friday. Brad Hersey will be playing at the Pellston Friendship Center on Thursday, May 16.

Double Deck Euchre
This version of euchre adds a fun twist and a bit of a challenge to the well known game. Grief and Loss Support Group
FCEC is offering a 10-week Grief and Loss Support Group and Educational Series beginning in May. The group will be led by Lori Lind, Social Worker, and will meet every Monday at the Petoskey Friendship Center starting May 13 through July 22 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Group size will be limited so please sign up by calling Lori at the Council on Aging at (231) 347-3211, ext. 22.

Hearing Testing
Free hearing tests will be offered for persons age 55 and older at the Petoskey Friendship Center on Wednesday, May 15 beginning at 9:00 a.m. An Audiology Technician from Petoskey Ear, Nose, & Throat Specialists will be conducting the tests. This service is free of charge but appointments are necessary and can be made by calling the Petoskey Friendship Center at (231) 347-3211 or toll-free (888) 347-0369.

Bubbling Springs Preserve Walk
Weather permitting, take a guided stroll on Wednesday, May 15 with former Little Traverse Conservancy stewardship director Doug Fuller for a short hike at this neighborhood nature preserve and discover the unique qualities of this area. The bus will depart the Petoskey Friendship Center at 1:15 p.m. and will pick back up at the preserve at 2:30 p.m. Be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes! Space is limited. Myths about Exercising over 60
Movement is the key to a healthy life. Physical Therapist, Jeff Samyn, from Nothern Michigan Sports Medicine Center will discuss the benefits of exercising over the age of 60. Presentation will take place at the Petoskey Friendship Center at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20.

Castle Farms Tour
Join FCEC's Marketing & Development Director on a field trip to Castle Farms on Thursday, May 23. Upon arrival at the 100-year old castle, guests will view a short video describing the history and restorations, followed by a 30-minute tram tour of the grounds. Time will be allowed to view the sites and enjoy a (bring-your-own) lunch in the Rose Pavilion. Bus departs Petoskey Friendship Center at 9:00 a.m. and departs Castle Farms to return back at 1:00 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. Space is limited. Memorial Day
In observance of Memorial Day, Friendship Centers of Emmet County will be closed on Monday, May 27

Movie and Popcorn
Come for lunch and stay for a movie on Wednesday, May 29. The FCEC Theater at the Petoskey Friendship Center will be showing the movie Green Book beginning at 12:45 p.m. Movie and popcorn is free for those age 60 and older and their spouses.

Eyes and Ears
The Eyeglass Clinic and Hearing Aid Clinic will take place on Thursday, May 30 at the Petoskey Friendship Center. Representatives from Petoskey Optical will be available starting at 11:15 a.m. to clean and adjust your eyeglasses. Representatives from Petoskey Ear, Nose, & Throat Specialists will be available starting at 11:30 a.m. to clean and check your hearing aids. Appointments are not necessary for these free services.

Field Trip to USCGC Mackinaw Tour
Explore the largest icebreaker in the Great Lakes on Wednesday, June 12 with a 90-minute tour through the 290-foot US Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw. Note this tour takes you through confined spaces, open decking, and steep ladders. After the tour, the group will head over to Darrow's Restaurant for lunch before returning to the Petoskey Friendship Center. The cost for the tour is $8.00 and lunch is to be paid individually. Bliss Farms Gardens and Community Kitchen Field Trip
Craig and Mary Rapin welcomes you to check out their farm and have fun creating your choice of a small potted herb garden or patio tomato plant with a field trip to Bliss Farm Gardens on Wednesday, June 26. Guests will also be treated to a homemade farm fresh soup and salad for lunch. The cost is $20 per person, which includes the take home planting and lunch. Be sure to wear sturdy walking shoes and if possible, bring a hat and garden gloves. Transportation is provided courtesy of Friendship Centers. Winter Weather Policy

If Petoskey Public Schools are closed due to weather, the Petoskey, Pellston, and Huber Centers will be closed and all services will be suspended at all locations. Meals on Wheels will not be delivered on these days.

If Pellston Public Schools are closed due to weather, the Pellston Center will be closed. If Petoskey Schools are open on this day, all other services will be operating as usual.

If either Pellston or Alanson Public Schools are closed due to weather, the Huber (Brutus) Center will be closed. If the Petoskey Schools are open on this day, all other services will be operating as usual.

Save Your Grocery Receipts

We appreciate grocery receipts from Oleson's Markets and D&W Fresh Markets. You may bring receipts into any one of our Centers or mail them to FCEC, 1322 Anderson Road, Petoskey, MI 49770. This is a great way to bring in additional dollars to support our programs.
