What is a Council on Aging?

A Council on Aging (COA) is a 501(c)3 organization that provides services to senior citizens by utilizing state and federal tax dollars through the Older Americans Act. In the State of Michigan these dollars are distributed to COAs through the Area Agency on Aging (AAA).

There are 16 AAAs in Michigan. Our organization falls in region ten, which consists of Emmet, Charlevoix, Antrim, Grand Traverse, Benzie, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford. Region ten’s AAA office is located in Traverse City. AAA contracts with an organization in each county to provide essential services such as Meals on Wheels. That organization is then designated as the Council or Commission on Aging.

Friendship Centers of Emmet County Locations

FCEC has three locations in Emmet County - Petoskey, Alanson and Pellston - where various events are held daily.
